Own Project 1: Mechanical Showcasing Boxes
How can you enhance the experience of receiving a precious gift?
During this project I explored the use of simple mechanics in my own design project to enhance the experience of the receivers.
For a special anniversary I thought of the idea of creating something special to commemorate it. I wanted to try and apply some kind of mechanism in its design. There were multiple ideas on how the mechanism could work. As there were two to be made, I conceived the idea to try out both mechanisms.
Woodwork was mainly used in creating the embodiment of the idea as this was accessible and I had done projects in the past with wood.
The first jewellery box contained a single gear elevator mechanism. While the second jewellery box contained a dubble gear mechanism.
The mechanical jewellery boxes worked as designed. The dubble geared elevator platform was the smoothest in operation. This project was the first successful integration of mechanisms in a design project.
